PIIE-CSC holds IE week celebration

I. STRATEGIES for 3!
On its third year, the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers - Cavite State University Student Chapter (PIIE-CSC) successfully held its annual industrial engineering week last February 23-24, 2017 with the theme, “STRATEGIES III: Strengthening Teamwork through Research and Academic Activities Transcending Excellence and Growth among Industrial Engineering Students - Year III.”

Prior to the two-day activity, a sports event was held last February 10, 2017 where different teams competed in various ball games such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and chess. The advanced games, which was more known to students as IElympics aimed to strengthen the value of sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition among the participants.

An informative seminar led by Engr. Abdulah P. Indardaya on “The Role of Ergonomics and Process Improvement in Service Organizations”, kick-started the two-day event. Afterwards, a Quiz Contest was held were it covered subjects such as general sciences and industrial engineering major subjects. An active afternoon was delivered by the Minute To Win It – IE Edition portion were representatives from contending teams battled it out to be hailed as the Last Man Standing. A dance competition was also part of the event where different sections had their own presentation of modern and folk dance fusions. And for the last feature on the opening day, the candidates for the Mr. & Ms. Industrial Engineering 2017 showcased their respective talents. 

The highlight of the second day was the coronation of the Mr. & Ms. IE 2017. Late in the afternoon, students were all dolled and dressed up for the closing event termed as the IE Night. A cross-dressing activity was also held, named as Bb. Ikatlong LahIE with the aim of raising awareness about Gender and Development. To cap off the annual event, trophies and other recognitions were distributed to students who have demonstrated exceptional talents and skills. Winners for the different events were awarded to rejoice the success of this joyous celebration. 

II. IELYMPICS
Five teams participated in different games such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and chess held at the University Open Court last February 10, 2017.

III. EVENT SCHEDULES




A. Online Promotions 
On February 16, 2017, media partner WhenInManila.com published the event on their website. Along with the press release statement is the event’s poster which bears the logo of the sponsors.


The logo of the sponsors were also featured on the official Facebook page of the event and was tagged as event partners. 

Furthermore, updates for the events (one example is for the Minute To Win It portion) were also announced on the page, the logo of the sponsors were at the same time presented. 

B. Sponsors Loop and AVP
The list of the event sponsors were announced verbally by the hosts during the start of, and after every major portion (the event has 6 major portions), and during (unofficial and official) breaks. The audio visual presentation of the sponsors were repeatedly presented during the allocated time for registration of participants and throughout the allocated break periods. 

IV. The Participants

L-R) Group leaders were Antonio Rotairo for Red Six Sigma, Mavell Mojica for Yellow Logistics, Jazmhin Sisracon for Green Ergonomics, Lorraine Vidallon for Blue Optimization, and Ronalyn Nuestro for Purple Productivity.

V. The Venue 
Located in Cavite State University (CvSU), Santiago M. Rolle Hall is one of the three convention halls designed to hold conferences, seminars, and other events for the faculty and staffs of CvSU. The venue can hold up to 500 individuals.

VI. The Events

1. STRATEGIES III Seminar Proper
The opening ceremonies were jam packed with inspiring words from the college dean and department chairperson, informative seminar from the guest speaker, raffle draws, and intermission numbers. 

2. Quiz Contest
Fifteen teams, composed of three members each, participated in the PIIE-CSC Quiz Contest. After three rounds, the team from Green Ergonomics composed of Jethro Darole (5th year IE student), Ric Jayson Rupido (4th year), and Geraldine Dinglasan (3rd year) were named as this year’s Quiz Contest champions. Engr. Gerry Castillo, IE Program Head, served as the Quiz Master. 

3. Minute to Win It – IE Edition
Fifteen energetic individuals joined this year’s most active event, the Minute To Win It – IE Edition. There were thirteen dynamic games that tested the strength and attentiveness of the players. Per game, the slowest participant to finish the assigned task was eliminated. The last two remaining players battled it out at the Face-Off Challenge, and after three games, Phoebe Ann Jacinto from Yellow Logistics was hailed as the Last IE Standing. 


4. Mr. & Ms. IE 2017 Talent Competition
The opening day ended with the candidates of Mr. & Ms. IE 2017 showing off their talents such as singing, dancing, painting, playing musical instruments, and others.

5. Dance Competition
All sections prepared a dance presentation that incorporates folk and modern dance fusions and were presented as special numbers during the event. 

6. Mr. & Ms. IE 2017 – Coronation
The highlight of the second day was the coronation of the Mr. & Ms. IE 2017. All 18 candidates showcased their beauty and confidence in different pageant portions such as sportswear, theme wear, and formal wear. Ten contestants proceeded to the question and answer portion. Finally, Mr. Leinard Jay Ramirez and Ms. Kimberly Orellano were crowned as Mr. & Ms. IE 2017.


7. IE Night 2017
To formally close the annual event, the students dressed up and gathered for the IE Night 2017. The party also included the search for the next Bb. Ikatlong LahIE, the awarding of the winners in the IElympics, Quiz Bee, overall champion, and others.
